How can we be sure Jehovah is using the WTS?

on pages 638 and 639 of its october 15 1954 watchtower, the organization answered the following question:.

how does jehovahs spirit help the faithful and discreet slave arrive at the truth of a matter?

the society does not claim infallibility or inspiration.

Is the Watchtower Society running short of cash?

is the fact that they are printing fewer magazines, like having just one watchtower for a whole month indicate financial troubles?.

They are now having audio downloads for the magazines from the internet instead of creating/shipping CD's/MP3's now. The audio cassettes have been discontinued. Yes, part of cost cutting.

The magazines may go way of being used exclusively for promising RVs. Tract work is cheaper for the cold calling ministry.

It makes me wonder how much is really being donated for the annual item literature, such as yearbooks, daily text and calendars. Do you think many publishers will consider these as a "year-end" gift from the society for all the hard work that they are doing? I know I never donated for those items. What about the DVD's for the videos that are being released? Is anyone paying for these?

New Bethel layoffs confirmed - we get our very own "special" pioneers!

highlights from a recent letter addressed to our boe:.

-- a married couple is leaving bethel, assigned to serve in our congregation as special pioneers.

-- the society will pay them $600 per month, and in addition cover their health insurance .

Clarification here :

From all the special pioneers that I know now, they receive $600 each per month. So, for this couple that sir82 mentioned, they would have coming $1200 per month ONLY if they meet the hour requirement. If not, than it is pro-rated.

Yes, they would have to be honest and not fudge the numbers they report in order to get the full amount of $600 each.

Sir82, you may have to double check what the letter to the BOE states.

I have a special pioneer couple in our congregation. They receive $1200 per month. I know of three other special pioneer couples in other congregations and they receive the same amount, $1200 per couple. Mind you, these special pioneers that I know are not from any Bethel layoffs. They were assigned these positions for over the past 10 years.

Did You Like The Elders In Your Hall?

Current congregation : 1 out of 5

1) He is a very kind, sympathetic "shepherd" who doesn't emphasize textbook procedures and policy. I wonder if he peruses JWD.

2) A company man. Doesn't he know what "shepherd" means. He thrives off of doing paperwork and trying to look busy in the congregation. Forgets about various ones in the congregation, including those in his own book study.

3) Former Bethelite. Another company man. Always refers to the "society's direction". Hardly a word quoted from the Bible. Conservative and neglecting the "weightier matters".

4) Semi-company man. Has to be because he is on the society payroll as a special pioneer. Glorifies the FDS. Has sick family, so doesn't bother with petty and trivial stuff in the congregation.

5) New elder. Trying to tow the line and make himself acceptable. No sense of depth. Or at least trying to seem like he has depth. I see him as the new "gopher" in the elder body. He will be used to do all of the things that the other elders don't want to do.

Being raised as a JW, I was taught to struggle and contend in order to get approved by Jehovah. It burned me out. Now I realize that God is far more lenient and loving than the WTS portrayed Him to be. The avatar is a reminder of what energy I wasted in the past.

Back in the days I used to check out Hardy Boys mysteries from the library. I remember during one summer vacation I had read most of the series. In fact, once during 5th or 6th grade I actually read three books in a single day.

Yes, still go and active in a sense of being regular at meetings, commenting and parts.

Why do I go?

1) Family

2) Because there are some who can be taught what the WTS is really all about, if at all with a subtle touch without raising alarm bells. If I'm still in, I can provide some sort of solace or comfort with my brothers/sisters who are in anguish or depressed about how they feel unknowingly or not about their faith in terms of how the WTS dictates it. The downtrodden are whom I feel the need to be there for.

The "textbook" brothers/sisters I usually avoid. They aren't of any comfort at all. Just works and outer appearances. No depth or substance nor anything substantial that they provide except the parroted/canned lines that they are indoctrinated with.

howdy folks.

had a chat the other day with an elder who lnows jws all over the world and he was telling me that in a u.s. cong a sister has just decided she is one of the 144000 - she is 41 years old.

in the same cong a brother aged 55 has recently decided he is one of the immortals as well.. they both claim that the holy spirit has bore witness to them.. what do you think such ones are actually feeling?

I know of a sister in my former congregation who started partaking several years ago when she was about 40 years old. She is a die hard avid Bible reader and pioneer. All her conversations wherever she is at always ties in to the Bible. She is rather nice and pleasant. Still single though and moved to a foreign language congregation recently.

I wouldn't say that she fits into the typical JW mold per se, as she often gets into debate discussions about the scriptures with the elders and she often writes to the Society about scriptural matters. What develops from them, who knows? The elders pretty much stay clear from her. Perhaps of her extensive Bible, Greek and Hebrew abilities. She is quite independant, but respected at the same time. Personally, I liked her ways.

Nobody really started murmuring when she did start to partake. It was kind of a given when she did.

Holy spirit bears witness? I suppose so.
